Back to Posting

Well, hopefully I can get back into this.

My schedule has been extremely full for some time. Hence the lack of posts.

However, I think I can start getting back to my normal posting ritual (if there ever was one).

Some things that have happened during my absence:

*I graduated highschool. Hooray!

*Several catastrophic events involving water happened around the farm. Not fun.

*I performed at a graduation ceremony. I now officially hate the song "Pomp and Circumstance" after having played it fifty times through. Those graduates needed to walk faster.

* We survived all of our spring concerts. I should have posted the dates on here, but I never had the time.

*I planned out my Senior Recital. Much work.

*I signed up for HSMA's Alumni Concert, which I am eligible to participate in because, after our last concert, I am no longer considered a student. This also means that I have one more week to learn twelve pieces of music, most of which I have never seen before. We only get one rehearsal before the concert. Yikes.

*My mother is expecting again! Baby is healthy so far.

*Arthritis is beginning to develop in all my joints. Not sure what's wrong with me, but it makes all activities more difficult. Hopefully it won't become chronic.

*I performed at the Honor's Recital. That was pretty amazing.

*I finally saw The Hobbit, and I was rather disappointed. I feel that everyone should know this. :P  Some parts I liked, but others were complete fiasco. The Misty Mountains is a physics-free zone, apparently. No matter how far or hard you fall, you will not die. Unless you're a badguy, of course. Then you die if someone just happens to swing a stick your way. And Radagast? Nope. Didn't buy into the super-speed rabbits. But some of it was good, like I said.

*That seems to be all that I can think of at the moment. Hmm. I'm sure more happened.

Well, you'll see more of me later. I have to go practice all that music.

Honors Recital

Yes; I am very, very behind schedule. I know it. But life has been extremely packed for the last few months (or all year) and I'll give ya'll a more substantial post later.

Right now I'm talking about HSMA's Honors Recital.

What is the Honors recital, you may ask? Well, you're going to have to show up to find out!

(Or I could just tell you)

The music program that I'm in, Homeschool Music Association, has a recital every year for the students that meet certain criteria (getting a 1 or Superior at States is a major one). The directors choose fifteen from the eligible students to perform at the recital. This year I think we had around fifty eligible? Anyways, here's a write-up of the flier that someone did:

(Ain't it the truth!)

2013 Honors Recital

Date: Friday, April 5, 2013
Time: 7:00 PM
Place: St. Luke’s Lutheran Church
5589 Van Atta Road, Haslett, MI 48840
Admission: Free!

The Honors Recital has a two-fold purpose: Honor the very best of HSMA with a special recital showcasing, un-characteristically for HSMA, individual talent, and to serve as an inspiration to other HSMA students.

Featuring:

 Kayla Austin, soprano

Jonathan Bacon, french horn

 Benjamin Calhoun, trumpet

Domenica Dalla-Vecchia, soprano

 Rachel Dobyns, flute

 Marlin Dugan, cello

Seth Dugan, tenor

 Derek Eilert, cello

Jessica Frazier, soprano

 Tessa Linsley, marimba

Emily Pohl, violin

Tyler Wixtrom, euphonium

 Ian Dufrin/Ellen Miller Duet

 Seth Dugan/Matthew Swett Duet

 Dvorak String Quintet

I feel that I should mention that there is a reception afterward which, I think, means food. Not that anyone would come for the food. But, yeah. Come if you can! Swell the ranks of the intimidators---those that are occupied in scaring the shinanigans out of us.

Firefox crashed on me during the first version of this post, so the second version wasn't as good... I think I need to switch to Google Chrome...

Christmas Concert

Ah, yes; concert is next week. For some reason I can hardly wait for it to get here, though I know I'm going to be nervous and shaky that day.

It's one of things that, ready or not, you've got to launch into. And boy, are we ever launching. Choir was so unprepared for the massive song load that we had to call an extra practice this Saturday. Eek!

For those of you that might be interested, the concert is:

December 17, 7:00pm at the Holt Highschool.
Free music, free cookies, and a lot of rowdy homeschoolers in blue.

Anyway, yeah. There are going to be six groups performing, so expect a lot of diversity.

Oh, and at the end there's a sort of surprise (which really isn't a surprise anymore since we did it last year) sing-along Christmas hymns thing. So you can sing with the symphony orchestra (not that it'll help) and whatever is leftover of the choir after we've all been sorted into the orchestra (I can't sing and play at the same time, unfortunately. I and my stand-partner discovered that last week). Anyway, it's unforgettable, you'll like it, come.

Oh, and watch out for fainting choristers. Our last song is very high, loud, and intense, and some of us might drop off the risers.

Bring a camera!

The purpose for our Spring 2012 Tour is three-fold:

1. To encourage home schoolers in the area of music. Some home school groups have instrumental and vocal programs in place, some dream about this, and some groups have never thought about these types of programs. Our group began 19 years ago from a desire of 4 families. They pursued a man in their church, asking him to consider conducting a little band and he said, ”YES!” HSMA began with a small group of students on a variety of instruments. It was a “bandestra.” It now consists of 12 groups in three area: Band, Orchestra, and Choir. Our desire is to help and encourage other home schooling families in the area of music and see how it may be possible to begin their own program in their area!
2. To educate our home school musicians. We have toured colleges, museums, Shepherds Ministries in Wisconsin, and rescue missions. This year we will tour the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY.
3. To engage in fun! This year ~ Niagara Falls!
We are hoping to meet many home schooling families at these locations! If you have friends or family from any of the above areas, even if not home schooled, let them know about our itinerary! Would love to have them attend a concert! Thank you for helping to “spread the word!”
Contact Marilyn Frazee at marilyn.frazee55@gmail.com if you plan on coming! She’d love to hear from you!
